Apennine yellow-bellied toad, Bombina pachypus, is endemic to peninsular Italy and has undergone a severe (>50%) decline over the last thirty years which was enough to warrant a listing as ‘endangered’ by the IUCN.
Our work with the yellow-bellied toads is done by Stefano. Stefano was born and remains a batrachologist (a herpetologist who only likes amphibians) and although he works on many different topics his deepest passion still lies with this species. Of greatest concern is that we still aren’t sure why this species is declining!
